How can we teach reading? How can we teach listening? How can we teach writing? How can we teach speaking? I was humbled to be able to take further my knowledge of each of these.

My Master's program gave me the opportunity to develop my knowledge on languages and cultures. This helped me become more open-minded. I explored more about how people learn and how they learn languages. I reflected on my own background and experiences both as a teacher and in life. I considered how I can use this to continue to support learners going forward.

I have practiced my skills in
thinking and reflection. I have exercised my creativity and learnt new technologies. I have developed my cooperation through work with inspiring peers.

It has been a career and life developing opportunity. Thank you, all!

Teaching Reading

I reflected on my own reading journey and how it would inform my teaching. Here is my literacy narrative.

I looked at my own literacy narrative and those of peers, reflecting on what I could learn from it and how I could apply it to my teaching.

My colleague Kaitlyn and I developed a discrete skills reading activity. We then expanded it to involve integrated skills. Thank you for the collaboration.

Discrete skills.

Integrated skills.

I reflected on the creation of the classes.

Teaching Listening

To deepen my thinking of how we develop our listening skills, I reflected on my own listening development in two languages.

I then created my own listening guide for a TED talk for students.

My colleague, Echo, and reviewed each other's listening guide. We had a debrief discussion.

Finally, Echo and I created an integrated listening and speaking assignment

Teaching Writing

I created a writing rubric.

Marked student work.

I then investigated writing resources in my local community and proposed a policy for a new resource.

Finally, I reflected on the impact biases can have on my teaching.

Teaching Speaking

I made an instructional video based on a student needs assessment.
